The waterway is really old and important. It was a big part of a famous book called “Waterlog” written by Roger Deakin. This book inspired a new trend in Britain. People began swimming outdoors like rivers and lakes.

“The Waveney for me, as my local river, has always been a kind of escape route,” the late naturalist and wild swimming enthusiast Roger Deakin once said. “It’s a way into another world.”

The writer lives near the Waveney River. It’s been 25 years since a famous book called “Waterlog” was written. The writer wants to explore the whole Waveney River. So, he thinks most people don’t know about this river, so they want to share it with everyone. This book started a trend in Britain where people started swimming in rivers and lakes. The writer of “Waterlog”, Roger Deakin loved swimming in the river and moat near his house. This inspired him to write a book about his experiences. The Waveney River was Deakin’s favorite river, and he wrote a lot about it in his book.

Deakin described the Waveney as a river with many different moods. Sometimes it flows slowly and calmly, and other times it rushes over shallow areas. It has many hidden swimming spots, like deep pools and sandy beaches. People often use wooden pallets, ropes, and overturned canoes to create diving platforms.

Deakin often biked to many of his wild swimming destinations. “The quality of cycling is akin to swimming,” he described in Waterlog. “I enjoy the gliding, swooping motion of the bike as I enjoy the grace of swimming.” Deakin also enjoyed canoeing on Waveney. He even made a radio show. Deakin talked about canoeing the entire length of the Waveney River, from the start of the river to the Geldeston Locks. He did this in his canoe, the Cigarette.

In different seasons, the Waveney River looks very beautiful and peaceful. In winter, the old drainage mills look like ghosts against the snowy landscape. In spring, the river is covered in soft, fluffy seeds from willow trees. And in summer, the river is full of life, with birds singing and flowers blooming.

The Waveney River not well-known as other parts of the park.so the author and their partner decided to explore the river by bike, cycling 104 miles over four days.  The Waveney river is full of history. It’s connected with the famous King Edmund the Martyr. This river is also famous for a huge treasure of Roman gold and silver coins was found near the river. It is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Along the river you can find beautiful villages, historic sites, and stunning natural landscapes. This river is home to a variety of wildlife, including otters, birds, and fish.

The author explored the river, visiting charming towns like Bungay, Hoxne, and Beccles. They also enjoyed the peaceful countryside, stopping at historic mills and picturesque villages. The journey along the Waveney River was a delightful experience, offering a glimpse into England’s history and natural beauty.
