Where to go in Morocco for a beach holiday? When most people think of a holiday in Morocco, they picture busy souks and evocative medinas. Morocco is a short-break spot of historic towns offering a taste of city life with a different twist. There are, however, many beaches in Morocco that many people don’t know about. These beaches range from full-service resorts that are great for children to luxurious coastal hideaways for a romantic getaway.

Where to go in Morocco for a beach holiday - Low Cost Vibes Blog

Morocco boasts 1,200 miles of coastline that stretches from Tarfaya on the Atlantic Coast, close to the Western Sahara, to the northeastern town of Saïdia on the Mediterranean beaches. Large expanses of sand that cascade into the lake, as well as areas reserved only for birds and other species, are some areas that have remained essentially unaltered. While locations like Tamuda Bay in the northeast and Agadir on the Atlantic coast can rival any in the Mediterranean for their hotels and services, other sections remain wild and windswept, dotted with kitesurfers.

There is no time difference, 70 weekly flights from the UK, and a Morocco beach holiday getaway to Morocco that can be either an extravagant, leisurely weekend or a whistle-stop weekend. Whichever resort you select—a bustling one or a serene backwater—you’ll discover Morocco’s unique charm and where to go in Morocco for a beach holiday.

Best times to explore beach holidays in Morocco

Before booking, things you should suppose

The Pros

Beach Weather All Year

Some beaches in Morocco are better in certain months of the year than others, but there is always a beach that you can visit! In the winter, go to towns in the south like Dahkla, where the weather stays pretty stable all year. For other places, it will depend on what you want to do. The best time to soak up some sun is from May to September.

Decide on

You can choose from a LOT of beaches. The water or the Mediterranean is only a short drive away whether you’re going to the north, south, or middle of Morocco. This means adding a beach trip to your Morocco plans is easy no matter where you go.

A variety

In Morocco, not every beach is the same. The water in the Mediterranean is a beautiful shade of blue, and there are golden beaches. There are also beautiful beaches on the Atlantic, but the water is not as calm. Because of this, people who like water sports like sailing and surfing will love Morocco. Morocco is a great place to go to the beach if you want to do anything.

Limited Business

Some might think this is a strange reason to go to the beach. On the water around Morocco, there isn’t much business going on. Some are near big towns like Casablanca, but not in many places. Therefore, the water is much better. A few places, like the Dahkla lake, are also protected for the environment.

Cons

High Season

The summer is the busiest time for tourists to visit beach towns. Additionally, it’s the best time to visit the beach. Popular beaches will be crowded, and hotels and flats will not be easy to find. Don’t miss the chance to go, but book early and be ready to pay more.

Winter

Many beaches across the country are too cold to swim or lay out in the sun from November to March. Wave surfers and windsurfers do their sport all year. Like fishing trips, you can get wetsuits and other winter activities in many beach towns.

Get to

Some beaches are in towns, like Essaouira, but most of Morocco’s beaches are outside cities. You will need your car, a cab, or a driver to get to these places. This is mainly true for places that are farther away and harder to find.

Wind

Morocco has many open beaches, mostly in the central and southern parts of the country. For some, this is great, but if you’re planning a trip with kids who want to play in the sand, you might not want to deal with sand that keeps blowing around.

What to Put on for the Beach

Many travellers, especially women, ask what they should wear to the beach in Morocco. This post has some tips on feeling at home and following the traditions of the place you’re visiting.

What to Wear in the Summer

Lots of travellers like to go to the beach in the summer. These tips will help you pack to stay cool and polite if you’re going to Morocco and spend time on the beach.

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE BEACHES!

Here are some of my favourite beaches in Morocco and some ideas from travellers’  favourite spots. Morocco beach holidays offer a variety of stunning coastal experiences. Where to go in Morocco for a beach holiday? Which beach in Morocco is THE BEST? There’s no order to these sites, so you can go to all of them and decide which one you like best.

Hippy trail – Essaouira

Hippy trail, Essaouira Best beaches in Morocco - Low Cost Vibes Blog

Essaouira is easygoing and full of stories so that it might be Morocco’s most romantic beach town. In the 1960s, it became famous as a stop on the hippy trail, where guitar legends like Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Cat Stevens stayed. Although it’s been decades, the laid-back vibe has amazingly stayed. This may be partly because the wide arc of the beach is buffeted by strong winds, making it hard to grow as a mainstream resort.

You can unwind and discover the city itself. Within its 18th-century medina, which features whitewashed walls and teal-blue door and window frames, there is a photographer’s paradise and a shopping paradise. There aren’t as many people here as in Marrakesh so that you can look at the stands selling everything from Berber rugs to artisan jewellery. A great place to stop for lunch is at one of the food stands along the harbour wall, where fishermen sell and cook their daily catch and serve it with lots of fresh salad.

Urban beaches – Agadir and Casablanca

Urban beaches, Agadir and Casablanca Best beaches in Morocco - Low Cost Vibes Blog

Agadir is the most famous beach town in Morocco. It is also a busy city that gets 300 sunny days a year. Around the six-mile stretch of beach, many hotels range from cheap to five-star hotels. Because the whole city was rebuilt after a terrible earthquake in the 1960s, it doesn’t feel as traditional as other Moroccan towns. But the beachfront is beautiful. The wide promenade is lined with gift shops and street artists, and the bars and restaurants are the best places to watch the sunset over the Atlantic. Agadir is the perfect destination for those looking to experience the beauty of Morocco beach holidays.

The Marina d’Agadir is the elegant centre of the city. It is a multimillion-pound port complex surrounded by high-end shops, bars, and boutiques. There is also some history nearby. The hilltop kasbah, built in the middle of the 16th century, is just a short cab ride away. The outside wall is all left, but the trip is worth it for the beautiful views of the bay and coast. A little farther away is the fishing town of Taghazout, which is becoming known as the best place to surf in Morocco and is home to some of the best breaks in the country. For those seeking adventure, Taghazout is a fantastic addition to your Morocco beach holidays.

The Atlantic Ocean is a big part of Casablanca, although it’s not usually considered a beach destination. Along the promenade and seafront Corniche area are many bars and restaurants. There are also many beach clubs on Ain Diab, the main beach outside the city centre. Large waves make paddleboarding more fun than swimming, but seawater pools near the beach offer the same views of the Atlantic but with quieter, safer water. Casablanca’s vibrant seafront is a great spot for those looking to enjoy Morocco beach holidays with a mix of urban life and coastal beauty.

Fabulous for families– Tamuda Bay and Saïdia

Fabulous for families, Tamuda Bay and Saïdia Best beaches in Morocco - Low Cost Vibes Blog

Tamuda Bay is Morocco’s newest and most popular port. It is on the country’s less-visited eastern coast, less than an hour’s drive from Tangier. Many high-end hotels have opened along the long stretch of beach in recent years. These include the Ritz-Carlton, the Banyan Tree, and the Sofitel, whose Tamuda Bay location won Best Luxury Hotel at the 2016 World Travel Awards. It’s a great place for families because the beach slowly slopes into the water, making it safe for younger kids and teens to enjoy many water sports.

Tamuda has a lot more to offer than just the beach. The resort has its own water park and amusement park. Along Mohammed V Avenue, there are many restaurants and street sellers where you can eat traditional Moroccan food and Mediterranean favourites. For a day trip, you should go to Tetouan, which is close by and has many white houses between the Rif Mountains and the ocean. Heritage places on the Unesco list include the Medina and the city’s Royal Palace. The town has a strong Andalusian feel, as Moorish refugees founded it in the 15th century as a settlement.

Saïdia is a smaller town farther east on the Mediterranean coast. It has a beautiful nine-mile stretch of unspoiled sandy beach backed by mimosa groves and eucalyptus trees. A few holiday hotels in Saïdia are great for staying in while you explore the nearby Moulouya National Park, see the unique Sidi Yahya oasis, or take in the views from the Cap de l’Eau clifftop walk.

Romantic escape – Oualidia

Romantic escape, Oualidia Best beaches in Morocco - Low Cost Vibes Blog

The peaceful town of Oualidia is on the Atlantic coast, halfway between Essaouira and Casablanca. It is built around a crescent-shaped lagoon that is great for birdwatching and surfing. Lots of pink flamingos, avocets, storks and water birds come through in the spring and fall on their way north or south.

People from cities in Morocco love to come here in the summer, but when the summer is over, life is pretty slow. There isn’t much to do besides swim in the lake, eat fresh seafood (the oysters are said to be the best in the country), and walk along the pristine coast. If you want to treat yourself, stay at the beautiful La Sultana (lasultanahotels.com), connected to one of the most luxurious hotels in Marrakesh.

Off the beaten track – La Plage Blanche and Dakhla

Off the beaten track, La Plage Blanche and Dakhla Best beaches in Morocco - Low Cost Vibes Blog

For tourists who like to take risks, Morocco has some truly beautiful stretches of coast that no one has touched. La Plage Blanche is the longest and wildest beach in the country. It’s a 25-mile stretch of sand and untouched dunes in the middle of a huge natural park. Not a single five-star hotel or even a simple cottage can be found here. Instead, there are a few fisherman’s huts scattered among the dunes. Bring a tent and sleep under the stars for an experience you’ll never forget.

In the south, Dahkla is a long peninsula that goes out into the Atlantic Ocean and has some of the best beaches in Morocco for water sports. New and experienced kitesurfers can use the Bahía de Dakhla, a flat lagoon between the peninsula and the mainland. But remember that Dakhla is in the disputed Western Sahara and is very different from the rest of Morocco. It’s a place for more daring travellers.

Insights into culture and responsible tourism

The coastal areas of Morocco show off the country’s rich culture, where modernisation and custom live together. As you enjoy the beach lifestyle, respecting other cultures and following eco-friendly tourist practices is very important. Follow the area’s rules by dressing modestly and asking permission before taking pictures of people. Help the community by staying in eco-friendly places like Moroccan Riads and hiring local guides who can tell you about the way of life in Morocco.

By going there, you support the local economy and help keep this unique cultural landscape alive. Remember that what you do affects your visit and the future of these beautiful places.

10 Places You Might Want to Visit on Holiday in Morocco

Marrakech is a real treat for the senses. It is an old city with many interesting things to see and a bit wild, like Istanbul. With a good guide, you can see a lot in one day.

Chefchaouen is a hilly town with lots of different shades of blue. It’s a popular spot on Instagram in Morocco, but it still feels real and is a nice place to relax. For those looking for more variety, combining this visit with a trip to Morocco beach holidays could be the perfect way to unwind.

Stay away from Agadir; it’s a trap for tourists. Essaouira is on the Atlantic Coast. It has a World Heritage medina and a long history of traditional music. Hendrix used to come here to get ideas. Essaouira’s coastal charm makes it an ideal location for a relaxing Morocco beach holiday.

Most of Morocco’s east is desert. The most interesting places are sand mounds called “ergs,” like Erg Chebbi. You can take a helicopter there and spend the night in a beautiful, empty desert camp.

Fes, a mediaeval city with many narrow streets, is considered the biggest city in the world without cars. It’s a walled maze of wonderful artists, buildings, sounds, smells, and tales.

Adding a trip to the beautiful Atlas Mountains to your time in Marrakech is easy. Kasbah Tamadot is one of our favourite Virgin Limited Edition properties. It feels very much like the Berber town it is in.

Morocco’s most modern side can be seen in Casablanca, which isn’t as atmospheric as other towns. But it does have an easy-to-use airport and some cool sights.

Meknes

There are four imperial cities in Morocco. Meknes is the least visited because it is the smallest. Meknes has more traditional craftspeople than any other place in the country—50,000 of them live there. Travellers who like art and style have to see it.

Morocco is often where Hollywood films scenes from the Middle East or ancient Europe. Like Gladiator, it was shot in the beautiful mud-brick village of Aït Benhaddou. There are a lot of cool places for movie fans to go.

Don’t think of Morocco as a place to go to the beach. You can, however, add some beautiful stretches of shore to your plans. Some of these are near Tangier: Mirleft, Legzira, Oualidia, and Achakar. They don’t have any places to stay, and you might have to share the sand with horses. If you’re seeking a balance of culture and relaxation, consider extending your trip with a stay at one of the Morocco beach holidays nearby.

Where to stay in Morocco

Agadir is more than just a beach destination spot, even though its sands are very good for Morocco beach holidays. Get your buckets and spades ready, families: Agadir Bay has lots of sun, waves, and sandcastles. There’s more, though! The kids enjoy the Crocopark, not just because of the big smiles. Now, couples, how about a romantic ride on a horse along Taghazout’s coast? Yes, it is just as dreamy as you think.

Swish! And we are taken to Marrakech, a city full of colour and chaos. The Jardin Majorelle is peaceful amid all the noise and activity. It’s blue, pretty, and will quickly become your new best relaxing place.

Make a mess and get to know each other over tagines and mint tea. And for lovers, a ride in a carriage around the medina is like something out of a fairy tale. Brick streets, lights, and a magic scent in the air. All-inclusive holidays in Marrakech may sound like the dream, but there’s so much more to see and do!

Morocco is full of dreamy places to visit, from the cool beaches of Agadir for your Morocco beach holidays to the mesmerising markets of Marrakech.
