Wizz Air flight delay compensation: Was the Wizz Air flight cancelled or late? Get the money back and the reward! What if your Wizz Air flight was cancelled or delayed? If your Wizz Air flight is late, you can get between £220 and £520 in compensation. How much you can get from Wizz Air will depend on how long your flight was late and how far it was.

Wizz Air is a low-cost airline that flies all over Europe and to a few places in the Middle East and North Africa. The biggest airline in Hungary is not the country’s flag carrier, even though it is the biggest.

Wizz Air has about 120 flights in its fleet right now, and it runs more than 710 routes in over 40 countries. The airline has two subsidiaries: Wizz Air UK and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. Since Wizz Air Abu Dhabi doesn’t operate in European countries (mostly between Abu Dhabi and non-EU countries like Egypt and Ukraine), most of its flights aren’t covered by the rules below for flight compensation and refunds.

The UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said in April 2023 that Wizz Air had the worst punctuality in the country, with an average wait of 46 minutes and six seconds.

Important facts

  • Did you get where you were going at least three hours late because of a Wizz Air flight delay? File a claim for up to €600 in flight costs!
  • Was your Wizz Air flight delayed less than 14 days before it was supposed to leave? You can get your money back and be compensated!
  • For trips that happened up to 6 years ago, you can get Wizz Air to pay you back and give you money back.
  • If you use Low Cost Vibes, a Wizz Air claim is more likely to be successful. We will do everything for you, find the best flight deals, and even fight for your rights. If you don’t win, there’s no fee.

What air passengers can do if their Wizz Air flight is delayed or cancelled

This law, European Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004, or EU261, protects the rights of people who fly in the European Union. After Brexit, the UK will follow a version of EU261 called “The Air Passenger Rights and Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.” These rules will protect air passengers leaving the UK or going with a UK-based flight carrier.

What do these rules say about the rights of Wizz Air customers whose flights are delayed or cancelled?

  • Was your Wizz Air flight at least three hours late? If Wizz Air is at fault, you can get up to 600€ in flight compensation.
  • Did you miss your Wizz Air flight? If you didn’t choose any other flights the company offered, you can get your money back in full. You might also be able to get your money back if the cancellation was made less than 14 days before the trip.
  • If your flight is delayed, Wizz Air must offer you extra help. This is called the “right to care.” This help includes vouchers for food and drinks, contact services, accommodation, and transportation if needed. You can ask for these things at the airport Wizz Air service desk. If Wizz Air refuses a coupon, you can get the necessary things and pay for them yourself. When this happens, Wizz Air has to pay back your fair costs.

Please keep this in mind: If your Wizz Air flight was cancelled or delayed because of “extraordinary circumstances,” you may not be able to get ticket compensation. For Wizz Air to pay for the flight, they must take responsibility for the delay.

Wizz Air flight was delayed; file a claim for Compensation

If a passenger arrives at their final destination at least three hours late after a Wizz Air flight that was late, they will be compensated. British and EU air passenger rights laws say that the airline must also be to blame for the trip delay.

You can use a Claim Calculator to determine if Wizz Air will pay you for delayed or missed flights. In just a few minutes, you’ll get an assessment of your claim for pay. Under a “no win, no fee” policy, we can handle the whole claims process for you if you are qualified. We are also ready to fight for your rights if that is what it takes.

Refund and Compensation for a Wizz Air trip that was cancelled

Were you able to get on your flight? If your Wizz Air flight is cancelled, you can ask for a refund (not a voucher!) and could get up to €600 in Compensation!

When can I get my Wizz Air money back?

If your Wizz Air flight was cancelled and you didn’t take one of the airline’s other flights, you can get your money back. You can also get your ticket refunded if Wizz Air does not offer an alternative trip.

When can I get money for a Wizz Air flight that was cancelled?

To get Wizz Air flight compensation, your flight must have been delayed less than 14 days before it was supposed to leave, and the airline must have been at fault (see “Extraordinary Circumstances” for more information). The airline’s substitute flight has more requirements.

When can I get both money back and pay for a cancelled Wizz Air flight?

If your Wizz Air flight was delayed less than 14 days before it was supposed to leave, you can get Compensation and a refund.

  • Wizz Air did not give you another flight option.
  • You were given another flight option but chose not to take it. However, the suggested alternative flight must meet the conditions shown in the table below.
Notice of cancellationOther flight options
Compensation
Not more than 7 days ahead of timeLeave an hour earlier or arrive two hours laterYes
7 to 14 days ahead of timeLeave two hours earlier or arrive four hours laterYes
Not more than 14 days ahead of timeThere was no other flight availableYes + refund

Can I get my money back if I cancel my Wizz Air trip?

If you need to cancel your Wizz Air trip, you should know how the refund policy works because the airline will not give you a full refund. Wizz Air’s rules say that if you cancel your flight more than 14 days before it leaves, you can get your money back, less the cancellation fee. If you quit within 14 days of the trip, you must pay a bigger fee. Wizz Air’s website has more information on getting your money back if you must cancel your flight.

I didn’t make it to my connecting flight because Wizz Air was late or cancelled.

Suppose you missed your connecting flight because of a Wizz Air flight that was delayed or cancelled; both flights were booked under the same reservation. In that case, you may get money back or Compensation for the whole trip if the delay or cancellation meets the above criteria.

I took a Wizz Air trip to a country that isn’t in the EU. Can I still get my money back and get compensated?

You can, of course.

Some Wizz Air trips to and from Abu Dhabi would be the only ones that wouldn’t work. The EU rules don’t apply to this Wizz Air company because it is based in a non-EU country. If, on the other hand, your Wizz Air Abu Dhabi schedule includes a flight to an EU country (like Greece or Cyprus), you can get Wizz Air to pay for your flight from Europe to Abu Dhabi. This doesn’t work for trips from Abu Dhabi to Europe, as shown in the table below.

What kind of flightExampleCompensation
Taking a British airline flightBritish Airways flies from Tokyo to LondonYes
When you fly with an EU companyKLM goes from Amsterdam to London.Yes
Taking a flight from the UK with a non-UK or non-EU airlineJapan Airlines flies from London to TokyoYes

How much Compensation can I get if my Wizz Air trip is delayed or cancelled?

How much flight compensation you get is based on how far you fly. The farther you fly, the more Compensation you get.

How far your flight isCompensation
Less than 1,500 km flightsGet £220 per passenger
Within 1,500 to 3,500 kmGet £350 per passenger
Within the EU, flights longer than 1,500 kmGet £350 per passenger
Flights outside the EU that are longer than 3,500 kmGet £520 per passenger

In unusual circumstances, can Wizz Air turn down my claim?

The European Air Passenger Rights Regulations say that the airline has the right to refuse your claim in some cases. These are what we call “extraordinary circumstances.”

  • Poor weather, like thick fog, heavy rain, or thunderstorms.
  • A walkout, usually in the aviation industry (for example, a walkout by air traffic controllers at a certain airport).
  • On the other hand, an airline crew walkout is not seen as a strange event!
  • An act of terrorism or a general security risk because of political unrest are examples of political conditions.
  • Natural disasters like storms and volcanoes erupt.
  • A crash where the plane hits birds or other things in the sky.
  • An unwell or disruptive passenger.
  • Airport staff, like very long lines for security checks, can cause flight delays.

But you should know that airlines often use unusual situations as an excuse to deny valid claims. This is especially true when passengers file claims on their own, without the help of a lawyer.

If you want the best chances of success, file your claim with Low Cost Vibes. Your claim will be handled quickly, and we will ensure all the necessary paperwork is sent to the right people at the airline.

How long do I have to get Wizz Air to pay me back and give me Compensation?

We need to know:

  • The rules of the place where you’re flying from.
  • The rules of the country you’re going to.
  • The law in the country where the airline is based.

Visitors can always pick the system that works best for them.

In this case, if you take Wizz Air from Berlin to Budapest, you can file a claim under German (3 years) or Hungarian (5 years) law.

How long will it take for Wizz Air to pay and return my money?

Most of the time, getting paid takes a few weeks to a few months.
The wait time could get longer by a few months or even years if the company doesn’t respond or your case needs to go to court.

How can Wizz Air pay you back or give you a refund?

First, ensure you are eligible for a Wizz Air settlement and a refund.

After that, you can either go straight to Wizz Air and ask for Compensation and a return or let us do all the hard work for you. Our flight and weather data will help us carefully review your case. We’ll also gather evidence and contact the right airline employees.

What’s the state of my Wizz Air flight? – New information on Wizz Air flights that were delayed, cancelled, or had problems today?

To ensure a smooth trip, you need to plan ahead. Therefore, it is recommended that you be aware of the most recent information about the condition of your flight. Downloading the Wizz Air mobile app or visiting the airline’s website will let you know about any delays, cancellations, or problems in real time.
