The Maldives is one of the most popular travel places, and it’s easy to see why. It has pristine white-sand beaches, water as clear as glass, and hotels and resorts that are out of this world. But how much does a trip to the Maldives cost?

Costs for a few days living in the lap of luxury can sometimes be so high that even experienced luxury travellers get a little shocked. There are cheap ways to visit the Maldives, even if you’re a tourist. But you should know what you’re getting into before planning your trip.

This list of the costs of a trip to the Maldives includes five different price ranges to help you plan your trip, whether you want a more cheap Maldives holiday packages or the trip of a lifetime.

How much is it to go to the Maldives?

How much is it to go to the Maldives - Low Cost Vibes Blog

In general, it costs a lot to travel to the Maldives. An expensive trip to the Maldives is planned that way because the country is known for its private islands and some of the world’s most extravagant resorts. This is part of the appeal of this faraway island holiday spot!

But why does a trip to the Maldives cost so much? The two main things that make most tourists’ trips to the Maldives so expensive are the price of the islands’ famously high-end resorts and the cost of getting around the country by seaplane or speedboat.

You can do some things to keep the cost of your Maldives trip low, but not all of them can be changed. There are cheap ways to get to the Maldives. You might not be able to stay in an overwater house or a fancy villa, but if you plan your trip well, you can still have a great time on a white-sand beach in the tropics.

How much does it cost to go to Maldives?

A basic room in the Maldives can cost anywhere from £470 to £24,600 for a six-day, five-night trip. This huge range makes Maldives travel experiences surprisingly cheap and Maldives trip prices surprisingly expensive. This range doesn’t even include your flight from home to the Maldives.

Generally, a nice mid-range to luxury hotel stay in the Maldives will cost between £2,800 and £5,600. This is for a six-day, five-night trip for two people and typically includes everything.

Here are our detailed budget breakdowns for five types of travel: backpacking, cheap travel, mid-range travel, luxury travel, and ultra-luxury travel.

Cost of a Maldives Holiday

Remember that a few important things can make the price of two similar trips to the Maldives very different. If you want to get a good deal on your trip, think about these things:

Compare the costs of travelling during the high and low seasons: If you go during the low season (May to November), prices for resorts, tours, and outings can drop by up to 50% or more. You won’t be sure of sunny skies, but the trip will be amazing and cost much less.

Costs of getting from the international airport to your resort: You’ll need to figure out how to get to your resort from the international airport. If you live far away, It can get pricey to and from the international airport. Even a short helicopter or speedboat ride can cost a lot. To save money, you might want to stay at a resort on an island near the airport.

Of course, the plane tickets you take to get to the Maldives will cost extra. How much they cost will depend on where you’re coming from and when you’re going. You should consider this when planning your Maldives trip and figuring out how much it will cost.

A Look at the Maldives’ Budget

Our price breakdowns will help you better understand how much your Maldives trip might cost. Each price breakdown is based on a standard five-night trip, with Maldives resorts that fit each budget highlighted.

Prices are based on how things were when the piece was last updated, and they are for standard rooms in each hotel or resort.

You’ll also see apartment prices for March, the busy season, and September, the slow season. This will show you how the prices of similar trips might change with the seasons.

Breaking Down Backpackers’ Budget

Tourists can have a great time in the Maldives without spending much money. How? It’s best to travel outside the peak season, stay in hotels or guesthouses on crowded islands instead of private islands that are hard to get to and use ferries instead of planes when you can.

Here’s how much it costs to stay at a great, cheap hostel on Maafushi Island, a favourite of backpackers in the Maldives.

Staying at the Stingray Beach Inn for five nights

Rooms

Some of the best places to stay on Maafushi Island are cheap, like the Stingray Beach Inn. You’ll love this place because it has private rooms, private bathrooms, a lovely patio, and is only steps away from white-sand beaches. During the busy season, a basic room for two people at the Stingray Beach Inn will cost you £370 for five nights. During the off-season, the same five-night room would cost just £205.

What to Eat and Drink

Staying on an island with people means you can choose where to eat—there are many restaurants and bars on the island. This makes it hard to figure out how much you’ll spend on a trip, but plan to spend between £20 and £50 per day on food for each person.

Transportation

There are a number of ways to get to Maafushi from Malé’s capital airport. It’s the least expensive to take the public boat, which takes only 1.5 hours and costs £4 per person round-trip. You could also take a £30 per person 40-minute sailboat ride.

Added on

Many tour and excursion companies operate in Maafushi. These companies offer a wide range of trips, such as scuba diving, swimming, water sports, and more. Depending on your tastes, you might want to set aside up to £80 per person for excursions.

Two people can expect to pay up to £1,260 for a five-night holiday on Maafushi during the high season if they stay at the Stingray Beach Inn and add on extras like tours and better meals. You could get the same trip for as little as £470 if you went during the off-season, ate less, and didn’t go on as many outings.

Breaking Down Your Travel Budget

There are hotels and resorts in the Maldives that won’t break the bank. You can enjoy some nice places with great services, lovely beaches, and great day trips. You can save even more on your Maldives trip if you can go during the off-season, and you may be able to choose a nicer resort.
