So you only have two days in Zürich. Do you need some suggestions for things to do and places to visit? This is where I come in with some good old-fashioned tourist advice! I’ll share the 11 best places to visit in Zürich, within two days.
Sure, two days in Zürich may not be enough time to see everything, but feel free to pick and choose which of the 11 places appeals to you the most.
Zürich is well-known as the financial capital of Europe and the entire world. While the city works hard, don’t underestimate Switzerland’s largest city. A visit to Zürich is well worth the effort. (As a result, I applaud your decision.)
Uetliberg
Zürich has its own mountain, Uetliberg. Uetliberg, which towers over the city at 870 meters (2,854 feet), provides spectacular views of Zürich and the lake.
The mountain is easily accessible by train, and the trip to the top takes only 30 minutes. Once at the summit, there are numerous hiking trails to explore and become lost.
I recommend the two-hour hike to the Felsenegg cable car, which can takedown. It is simple to return to Zürich’s central train station from there.
Of course, the best time to hike is in the summer, but Uetliberg is open all year.
In the winter, you can take to the slopes and sledge down the mountain. Warm-up by admiring the view from the warmth and comfort of the UTO Klum hotel at the top of Uetliberg. It’s the ideal way to unwind after a day spent exploring nature.
Old Town (Altstadt)
Altstadt (Old Town for those who don’t speak German) is a magical place, especially in December.
All of the small, winding cobblestone streets are decorated in various Christmas colours, and you can even visit one of Switzerland‘s largest Christmas markets in the Old Town.
Within the Old Town, there are numerous points of interest.
Check out Grossmunster Church, one of the city’s oldest churches, standing since the 12th century. It is an iconic landmark of Zürich and serves as a valuable landmark for locating yourself throughout the city.
A stroll down Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most expensive and exclusive shopping districts, is another option. You can go window shopping at any of the street’s well-organised stores.
If you visit during the summer, make sure to take a boat tour that takes you directly through the Old Town. There isn’t a more relaxing activity on a beautiful, breezy summer day than sitting on a boat and watching the world go by.
Lake Zürich
In the summer, the lake after which the city is named becomes the place. The lake is breathtakingly beautiful because Switzerland’s famous Alps mountain range surrounds it.
The water is so clean and clear that you can swim whenever you want. Don’t worry if cannonball water rushes into your mouth; the entire lake’s water is drinkable.
It is a great place to cool aside; the lake has activities for everyone. Water sports, restaurants, parks, and a path where you can take a pleasant evening stroll while watching the sunset behind the mountains are all available.
Rent a car and go to Rapperswil, known for its rose bushes and over 600 different types of flowers, if you’re looking for good day trips from Zürich. It’s ideal for an evening meal before heading back to the city.
FIFA World Football Museum
The FIFA World Football Museum, which first opened its doors in late 2016, is located directly across the street from the world headquarters of its largest football organisation. The interactive exhibits are ideal for both football fans and non-football fans.
The museum, divided into three floors, traces the history of the game around the world and how it evolved into one of the most popular sports.
Seeing the actual World Cup trophy is one of the most excellent parts of the museum. It was previously housed in a bank vault but has now found a new home at the museum.
It’s the ideal one-of-a-kind activity for a rainy, overcast day.
Im Viadukt
Initially built for the national railway system in 1894, the Viadukt is now home to all things hip and trendy in Zürich’s western district.
The Viadukt has everything you could require. The area has it all, from shopping to dining to eating and drinking.
Check out the Markthalle, which has over 20 local food and drink vendors (they give out samples if you ask nicely!). It’s one of the best places in Zürich to grab a bite to eat and enjoy an outdoor picnic.
The Viadukt has over 30 boutique shops to choose from if you want to go shopping.
Whatever your reason for visiting the Viadukt, you will undoubtedly find something suitable for your needs.
Jules Verne Panorama Bar
After a long day of exploring Zürich, do you want to sit back, relax, and have a drink? The Jules Verne Panorama Bar, named after the French poet Jules Verne, is the place to be.
Jules Verne, which has arguably the best view in Zürich, is the best cocktail lounge to have a few drinks before leaving for dinner or a night on the town.
The drink list alone is worth a visit to this bar, located in one of Zürich’s tallest buildings.
Of course, you can eat at Jules Verne as well. The food is quite good, and they have a seasonal, weekly, and monthly menu that changes regularly.
Zürich Opera House
The Opera House, which opened in 1891, is worth seeing for its beautiful architecture. In 2014, it was voted the best opera house in the world.
There are daily tours that explain the history of the opera house and the significance of attending the opera in Swiss culture.
Lindenhofplatz
Lindenhofplatz is a lovely park where you can relax and unwind if you’re looking for a quiet place to chill in Zürich.
Lindenhofplatz, which offers a spectacular view of the Old Town, the river, and the Grossmunster church, also houses the Rietberg Museum, which exhibits art from worldwide.
Do you want to play chess? You can even play it on giant chess sets here.
Because of its unique and memorable atmosphere, Lindenhofplatz is frequently an unexpected highlight for visitors to Zürich. Keep that in mind to explore your holiday top 11 Zürich things to do in two days.
Fraumünster Church
The Fraumünster Church (meaning “church of our Lady”) is a 13th-century Gothic cathedral with contentious stained glass windows designed by Marc Chagall. Some people adore them, while others think they are too abstract or modern. In any case, they’re worth a look!
The architecture is stunning, and the church has a fascinating history. This church, which was once part of a convent, is now a fascinating blend of new and old.
The Fraumünster church is worth visiting while strolling through the Old Town’s winding streets!
Zoo Zürich
Even if you aren’t travelling with children, a visit to Zoo Zürich is a good idea (though it is especially good with kids).
This isn’t your typical zoo. It has attractions like an elephant house and a stunning Madagascan rainforest in the Masoala Hall that stays at 95°F / 35°C indoors.
Following your exploration of the Madagascan experience in the Masoala Hall, you will be rewarded with a restaurant that allows you to eat while overlooking the tropical environment.
Zoo Zürich has been dubbed one of the best zoos in the world by some and is ideal for rainy days and animal lovers. So why not take a look?
Niederdorf
Niederdorf is the place to go if you’re looking for some old-world charm that Old Town (Altstadt) didn’t have enough of.
This long street oozes old-world European charm, with fantastic architecture, interesting sites, restaurants and pubs of all kinds. You could spend most of your evenings eating here while in Zürich and still not fully appreciate the cultural ambience of the area.
It has a perfect central location, which means that while you can wander around and become immersed in the area, you will never actually get lost because it will always be easy to find your way back.
So, drink from one of the hundreds of fountains surrounding the area, or grab a coffee and people-watch. Allow the rest of the world to pass you by as you relax on this cosy street!
