Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia, and the city resembles a postcard: layers of coloured balconies, cobblestone streets, ancient churches and towers, and the ultimate glass skyscrapers on the horizon. It is where the East becomes the West, where the old and the new swing together in the same joyous time. One of the questions travellers usually ask is: Is Tbilisi worth visiting? It is a must-see place in the Caucasus, a treasure chest full of experiences about to be unveiled.

I will take you on a tour of my 25 things to do in Tbilisi, from must-see attractions to small-scale street markets where you can sample local food. We are going to visit museums that trace Georgia’s history, cross the famous Peace Bridge, enjoy the city’s colourful nightlife, and visit high-altitude viewpoints, such as Mtatsminda Park, offering admirable views. All the recommendations are supported by profound knowledge of the destination and actual traveller reviews, which ensures that you perceive Tbilisi as an experienced traveller.

And bring your curiosity, watch the sunrise behind Mtatsminda, and we will dive into the most interesting things to do in Tbilisi. Whether you are taking a weekend getaway or a one-week vacation, this guide will help you explore Tbilisi’s cultural rainbow, its delicacies, and its memorable views. Let’s get started!

1. Narikala Fortress

Narikala Fortress, standing on a prehistoric volcanic rock, is the guardian angel of Tbilisi, and her gaze stretches both down the winding Kura River and up to the smouldering mountains of the Caucasus in the distant background. The first time I was in the fortress was a misty October afternoon, and the wind whistling through the old stone walls seemed to me like a whisper of the past.

Constructed in the 4th century, the fortress survived not only earthquakes and sieges but also the reconstruction of a Soviet city. Today, it would be an ideal place to capture a sunrise or practice meditation, free from the city’s hustle and bustle. The pedestrian walkway, which leads from the fortress to the centre of the city, is planted with Georgian poppies and provides a delayed, nonetheless, worth-the-wait, view of the rooftops of the Old Town.

Peak times? Morning hours or nights. The road is usually busy during the day, both with tourists and locals. Should you want a less hectic experience, you can either climb early in the morning or go out on a guided sunset tour, with one quick lesson in history. The trail is steep in some areas, so I suggest a packed lunch so you don’t need to carry much water. The hike should not take more than 20 minutes.

There are a few parking lots at the fortress entrance, and it is more convenient to take a local bus or a short taxi ride to the hotel. Upon arrival, a small admission fee is charged at the ticket office, though the sight is free for those who want to admire it from above.

Practical Tips

  • Have strong shoes; the rocks may be loose.
  • You should carry a light jacket; the hilltop gets cold soon.
  • Take the sunset -The profile of Narikala in the twilight sky is the envy of a photographer.

Narikala Fortress is not only a historical monument but also an ongoing conversation between the past and the present; a symbol of Tbilisi’s endurance and a must-see destination for those who are set on what to do in the city.

2. Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba)

Sameba is the largest Orthodox church in Georgia and arguably the most breathtaking spiritual site in Tbilisi: Holy Trinity Cathedral. My first encounter with the cathedral was during the holiday, and it was filled with the stained glass and the sound of a serious organ playing a religious song in the nave.

The most appealing thing to me about Sameba is its impressive combination of old Georgian architecture and modernity. The enormous white marble pillars, the gold-covered dome, and the elaborate mosaics produce the sense of reverence that should not be part of the normal tourist experience. And even though it is so grandiose, the cathedral is extremely approachable; its family-friendly design allows visitors to walk along the aisles and admire the artistry at close quarters.

The cathedral is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, though on Sundays it closes early. Admission is free, but donations are welcome to help keep this architectural treasure well-maintained. When you are there, you must also visit the tiny museum at the base of the dome, which houses relics and artefacts from Georgia’s Christian heritage. The tower of the cathedral is a slight climb for the adventurous, and it is a rewarding view of the city you have when you get to the top.

Practical Tips

  • Wear plain clothes (do not wear shorts or sleeveless tops).
  • Come with a small gift or a donation- locals will always like the symbolic donation.
  • The cathedral is very busy on big holidays; it is better to visit the cathedral in the middle of the day when there are not too many people there.

Sameba is a landmark of Georgian identity, a representation of faith and unity, and an obligatory point of interest for anyone visiting Tbilisi.

3. Bridge of Peace

Tbilisi is primarily known for its modern landmark, the Bridge of Peace, a glass-and-curved pedestrian bridge that links the old city with the new across the Mtkvari River. The bridge was initially crossed in late August, when the evening lights played with the glass, creating a combination of colours. It is an adventure that is both the journey and the destination.

The bridge is a work of engineering: 40 metres long, 12 narrow lanes, a unique design that reflects the city’s lights and the sunset. It is a suspended walkway 5 metres above the river that offers an exciting view of Tbilisi.

The two ends of the bridge are filled with a vibrant crowd of locals, artists and tourists that come during my visits. The shimmering lights at the glass surface create a romantic atmosphere, and tourists throng it at night to take a romantic walk or snap an interesting Instagram photo. When you want to sightsee, one of the places with a bridge (literally) between the city’s historical past and its present is to take a walk across the Bridge of Peace.

Practical Tips

  • The bridge is open 24 hours a day; however, the best view is after the sun goes down.
  • Do not be surprised to see crowds in the evenings; in the early morning, it’s empty.
  • The road is also level and well-illuminated, thus suitable across the ages.

The Bridge of Peace is an image of Tbilisi’s cosmopolitan spirit and the reflection of the progressive spirit of design. Don’t forget to take it to your list of things to do in Tbilisi.

4. Tbilisi Old Town

The Old Town of Tbilisi is a jumble of cobblestone streets, collonaded windows and pink-washed houses that appear to jump out of a fairy tale. The initial walk I took in the Old Town was in early spring, when the air was brisk and the streets, with their music and laughter, were bustling.

The Old Town is an open museum of Georgian culture, with traditional tea houses and artisan workshops. I suggest visiting Sulphur Baths (Abanotubani) first to experience the city’s ancient healing practices, and then stroll through the small streets to explore hidden cafes, shops, and bazaars. The elephantine Metekhi Church, built on a cliff, offers a marvellous view of the city’s rooftops.

In Tbilisi, its Old Town is an architectural dream, with an eclectic blend of Ottoman, Byzantine, and modern architecture. The entrance to Narikala Fortress, the Rustaveli Avenue, which is crowded with people, and the Cathedral of St. George in the hills are something you cannot afford to miss.

Practical Tips

  • Wear comfortable shoes; the stones are irregular.
  • Carry a small backpack with some souvenirs, water, etc.
  • A local guide can add more to your experience by sharing some tales which no map can tell you.

The Old Town is the very heart of Tbilisi, offering the genuine flavour of Georgian life that tourists cannot resist.

5. Abanatubani (Sulphur Baths)

The ancient sulphur bath district of Tbilisi, called Abanotubani, is the bastion of steam and calmness, surrounded by the Old Town and Mtatsminda Park. The first time I went was on a rainy evening, and the warm, mineral-rich steam that enveloped me felt like the embrace of the city itself.

The baths were constructed in the 16th century and are fed by natural hot springs flowing within the city walls. The region is a beautiful combination of the old bathhouses and new spa grounds nowadays. The best-known one is the old bathhouse of Sioni, where you can experience a classic Georgian bath: a steam session, a protein-rich milk bath, and a light massage.

The baths are a cultural heritage that literally defines what to do in Tbilisi. A large number of locals and visitors attend the communal steam rooms, where you will find a conglomeration of people, artists, business people, and students taking a few minutes to meditate. It is a wonderful place to experience Georgian hospitality at its essence.

Practical Tips

  • Use a swimsuit in the hot tubs, but carry a towel in the steam rooms, which are publicly accessible.
  • The baths are open all day, the best time is late in the afternoon and evening.
  • Have you noticed another Georgian wine in a cafe near your bath?

Abanatubani is not just a spa; it is a living heritage and a place for a unique, tactile experience of Georgia’s heart.

6. Metekhi Church & Statue

The Metekhi Church is peacefully located on a cliff overlooking the Mtkvari River, and its location is so beautiful that it immediately makes you feel part of Tbilisi, with its intertwined history. As a specialist in Low Cost Vibes, I have seen numerous tourists stop here to see how the old stone-clad facade of the church blends with the new skyline. The iconic statue of the Mother of God sitting on a balcony above the church is familiar to locals and tourists alike.

In this perspective, you observe the winding avenues of the old city and the more recent, busier streets in the distance. Also, spend some time in Old Town, which is paved with cobblestones and home to secret cafes, art galleries, and boutique shops. Should you visit some of Tbilisi’s museums, the nearby National History Museum can serve as a quick introduction to the city’s history. I would always encourage people to get there early in the morning; the sun is less blinding, the crowds are fewer, and one can absorb the serenity more before the day’s events kick off.

To immerse oneself in the experience, one can take a guided tour to explore the church’s history, the myths surrounding the Metekhi bridge, and the statue’s history. Our domestic guides will often tell us stories of the change that has taken place in the region – it was a stronghold at one time, now a sign of permanence. When you come, you will be better informed about why this location is a cornerstone of Tbilisi’s top-sights itineraries.

7. Mother Georgia (Kartlis Deda)

The Mother Georgia statue, also known as Kartlis Deda, is part of a trip to Tbilisi. The bronze figure is standing on the hill overlooking the city with a glass of wine and a bowl of bread- an epitome of hospitality and perseverance. It is situated on a hill overlooking the trees, offering panoramic views of the city’s historic centre, the modern Nightlife neighbourhood, and the distant mountains of the Caucasus.

I have personally observed tourists, some of whom are new to what to do in Tbilisi, show their astonishment at this national symbol. In the early morning, as the sun rises, the golden light casts the statue in golden hues, and the scene is a postcard. To add another adventure, take the funicular of the Mtatsminda Park to the top of the statue. It is a good place to get a 360-degree view of the Tbilisi skyline, the winding Mtkvari, and even the faraway Peace Bridge that connects both sides of the city.

After arriving at the top of the hill, make a slow walk through the adjacent trails. Small cafes are scattered around the area, and you can get your taste of traditional Georgian tea and hear locals talk about recent cultural events in the city. It is just the best place to practice your conversational Georgian, as several locals will welcome you with open arms and use expressions like Tavisram! (Thank you). The evening lights illuminating the statue also create a romantic effect, and the statue has become a popular spot for couples and photographers.

8. Fabrika

Be at the centre of the Tbilisi creative revolution in Fabrika, an old Soviet textile factory transformed into a colourful arts district. As a curator, Fabrika has become an attraction for people who love to shop, have a cup of coffee, and experience the true flavour of modern Georgian culture. There is also an eclectic mix of art studios, independent boutiques and within a sprawling food hall, local craft beers and delicacies are on display.

The open-plan layout of Fabrika would be ideal for a chilled-out afternoon. Begin with a coffee in one of the trendy cafes- most of them roast their own coffee beans- and go on a stroll through the art galleries with the work of both the emerging and the established Georgian artists. Pop-up markets, where you can buy handmade jewellery, clothing, or even a souvenir mug with a local twist, are held in the space.

If you are a visualist, our tour guides will provide an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the studio areas, giving you a sense of how Georgian artists integrate old motifs with new trends. The industrial architecture of the building also makes for a very impressive background in photos, particularly during the golden hour when the sun pours in through the high windows. And to the eaters eager to experience a food adventure, do not pass by the street food vendors who sell all kinds of food, including khachapuri and shashlik.

You will by now realise how Tbilisi balances its past and present in the Fabrika; the city’s forward-thinking and creative spirit is a true testament to its hypnotic personality.

9. Tbilisi Cable Car

Tbilisi Cable Car is not only a means of transport but also a highlight of the experience, offering panoramic views of the city’s beauty. Riding in a cab will give one a wonderful view of the city’s design, whether in the early mornings or late evenings, from the ancient Old Town to the busy Nightlife area. Up the car, you will be able to observe the old arches of old churches, the shiny glass fronts of new offices and the ever-present Mtkvari River meandering through the middle.

The visit to the Narikala Fortress, at the summit of the cable car journey, marks the end of an ancient pilgrimage. Narikala is a 4th-century fortress that has long overlooked Tbilisi. The city’s strategic significance over the years is reflected in its enormous walls and high bastions. The fortress’s grounds are strewn with prehistoric artworks, and our guides will tell us about the revolts that were suppressed and the medieval wars that were waged, which shape Tbilisi’s cultural consciousness.

Exploring the fortress, take a walk back, leisurely, and visit the points of the fortress’s lookout of the fortress. The picture of the city here is quite dramatic, particularly at sunset, when the golden hue is reflected in the river and the streets beneath it. Finally, take a brief tourist stop at the Peace Bridge, an architectural wonder that spans the two banks of the Mtkvari. Its modern design contrasts with the ancient fortress, underscoring Tbilisi’s blend of the past and the present.

10. Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue

Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue is the quintessence of Tbilisi’s renaissance. The avenue is named after the legendary King of the 12th century and is located on a lovely riverbank, with a mix of Georgian and European architecture. I enjoy taking guests on this promenade as a well-travelled specialist because I want to demonstrate how Tbilisi has evolved while still retaining its culture.

Boutique stores, designer studios, and old-fashioned cafes surround the avenue. The architectural designs of many buildings on this street combine Georgian, French, and Italian styles. This architectural style is indicative of the city’s receptiveness to world culture. Visit local artisan shops to get hand-woven fabrics or unique jewellery pieces that can serve as symbols of Georgian craftsmanship.

On your way, you will also see the street artists who also make the sidewalks of the avenue colourful. Their murals depict Georgian folklore, and most are interactive, allowing visitors to add their own strokes. A brief stopover at the surrounding street food vendors will allow you to enjoy traditional khinkali (dumplings) or sweet khalva, with a glass of wine produced in Tbilisi, as a must-have on the list of what to see in Tbilisi.

As the day grows dark, the avenue is lit, and the atmosphere is very romantic, making it attractive to couples and photographers alike. History, modernity, and culinary delight make Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue a miniature of Tbilisi in itself, and anyone wanting to experience Tbilisi sightseeing will not leave without recalling their time there.

11. Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens of Tbilisi must make your list when you ask what to see in Tbilisi. Located on the western side of Mtatsminda Mountain, this extensive park is not only a secluded place to take a peaceful break from the city’s bustle, but also a place to enjoy the views. The garden paths wind through tall conifers, unique orchids, and a beautiful greenhouse containing rare plants from around the world. One sunny Saturday, I planted roots in a small pot and watched the streets of my city become a soft hum, and it was almost a meditative experience.

The playgrounds and the small zoo available at the park make it a family-friendly adventure. Lovers also love to walk together along the meandering walkways, particularly at sunrise when the mist hangs in the branches. Whether you are a photography enthusiast or not, the diversity of floral displays in the garden will be like a cornucopia of colours you will want to capture in a snapshot.

One thing to remember: to have a great time, visit early in the morning. The gardens open at 9 am, and you will be able to experience cooler weather, fewer people and the calm beauty of dew-kissed petals.

12. Puppet Theatre (Rezo Gabriadze Theatre)

Rezo Gabriadze Puppet Theatre is not merely a theatre but a living part of the Tbilisi culture. Being a city of storeys, the theatre presents a distinct blend of theatre art and history. The most popular photo spot is its famous clock tower, which rises high above the Old Town streets. The first time I entered, I could smell fresh wood and hear small, expressive puppets.

What to do in Tbilisi? Relax like a puppet show, equally entertaining and educative, and travel in time with the small theatre. The performances are frequently based on Georgian folktales, ancient myths, and contemporary stories, and they also demonstrate the masterwork of puppet-making.

After the show, you are free to walk the streets around. There is Shavteli Street, the walking street I mentioned above, where you can find handcrafted goods, street vendors, and cafes offering traditional Georgian sweets. The theatre’s venue is ideal for a follow-up after a morning of sightseeing or a late stroll.

13. Shavteli Street

Tbilisi has a rich street culture, and I always tell my travellers that Shavteli Street is one of the city’s symbols. Being the most visited pedestrian street in Old Town, it is a busy marketplace where the local ambience can be felt. Starting with vintage jewellery and ending with the smell of freshly baked khachapuri, all the sensory details create a vision of the ordinary life of Georgians.

What to do in Tbilisi? Go and stroll and leave the beat of the street. I even spent mornings here, sipping coffee in a nearby cafe, observing street artists’ performances, and negotiating the purchase of unique souvenirs. The street’s architecture, a mix of 19th-century stone and extravagant balconies, gives each step a touch of history.

A tip by an insider: come before noon. Traffic will decrease, and you will have an opportunity to meet the artisans. To sample Tbilisi nightlife, be there till dusk, when the street lights come on, and the atmosphere bustles with live music, outdoor performances, and warm locals.

14. Sioni Cathedral

A very important sightseeing place in Tbilisi that tourists would not want to miss is Sioni Cathedral, the oldest and most religious church in the city. I have spent many silent afternoons here, and the weight of centuries of faith and history is in the stone walls. The cathedral’s unusual form, a combination of Byzantine and Georgian architecture, creates a visual tapestry that is both awe-inspiring and reassuring.

What to see in Tbilisi? Visit the rich frescoes, the old icons, and the cathedral’s silent corners. Surprisingly, the interior is very spacious, and visitors are not overwhelmed by the serene atmosphere.

To families, the cathedral provides a tranquil, thoughtful enclosure after a busy day in the streets. The historical displays surrounding the cathedral will be considered complementary to those who are attracted to museums in Tbilisi.

Practical advice: Because the cathedral is a worshipping place, dress decently, that is, cover shoulders and knees and observe silent moments.

15. Dry Bridge Flea Market

It is in the Dry Bridge Flea Market that the Dry Bridge Flea Market will transform into a voyage of discovery of what to do in Tbilisi. The market is situated in the centre of the city and is a maze of stalls selling antiques, vintage items, and unique souvenirs. I have spent hours here after selecting a vintage record, a hand-painted ceramic, and a lovingly restored Georgian watch.

Going to the market is not just ordinary shopping; it is a cultural experience. Many of the vendors have decades of business history and stories about the history of every item. The market’s urban atmosphere is very dynamic and noisy; it is also very vibrant, reflecting the city itself, so it is an ideal location for energetic travellers.

Have you been asking yourself, is Tbilisi worth visiting? Yes, I will say yes, and Dry Bridge can attest that the city can provide both peaceful and vibrant experiences simultaneously.

One tip for first-time visitors is to arrive early enough to get the best deals and to be prepared to bargain; the prices here are quite flexible.

16. Rike Park

As I first arrived at the shores of the river Mtkvari, I knew that Rike Park was going to be one of my favourite locations in Tbilisi. As a travel specialist at Low Cost Vibes, I always enjoy visiting places that make me feel like I’m breathing fresh air amid the busy city life, and this park has really done it. It is a vast green field that combines modernity and cultural heritage, offering a panoramic view of the Old Town, the dramatic Narikala Fortress, and the graceful Peace Bridge.

The most authentic way to see Tbilisi is to walk along its winding streets and stop at the one-of-a-kind Rike Bridge, an arch of steel that resembles a living sculpture. The bridge’s geometry is also popular with photographers, and the sight of the rippled river beneath the bridge’s rim is just hypnotic. When you are planning a tour, you should take a walk at sunset; the sky will be gold, and the city lights will begin to twinkle, illuminating the whole skyline.

Frequent visitors have told me this is the park’s main attraction: the open-air concerts and street-food kiosks. Local food stalls are also common, and the food offered is usually local delights like khachapuri and khinkali, served in a non-touristy atmosphere. The open-air cinema in the park, held every Thursday night, is a special nighttime experience in the city, adding to its dynamic nightlife.

A practical tip: Rike Park is free, but parking might be a pain. That is why it is better to get there by a short tram ride from Marjanishvili or by walking a few minutes from Freedom Square. The main entrance to the park is just next to the Rike Bridge, and the park has a few cycling trails, should you ever want to have a little bike ride and a sightseeing walk. Rike Park is a must-see on the itinerary of both a first-time visitor to Tbilisi and an experienced traveller, offering a genuine, natural setting to explore the city’s beautiful sights.

17. Europe Square – Central Square with Notable Monuments

The city pulse is best experienced at Europe Square. Being an insider, I was so excited to learn that the square is a perfect combination of Georgian tradition and a modern European atmosphere, offering gorgeous places to stroll and to visit intentionally. The central structure of the square, the Great Hall of the Parliament of Georgia, takes on a modern architecture that is neither stale nor inviting. As such, the Great Hall of the Parliament of Georgia is a favourite among photography enthusiasts.

Upon your arrival, be sure to check out the local street art and the colourful nightlife that beats through the local cafes and bars. Accessibility to the square is an added advantage; it is just 5 minutes on foot to Freedom Square and a few minutes on the tram to the Old Town, so one can easily access the square anytime they want to go on a Tbilisi sightseeing day.

Practically, the square has an abundance of shops, from local boutiques featuring handmade lace and silk to more modern retail stores with globally acclaimed brands. When you ask yourself whether Tbilisi is a place to visit, this square will tell you so. The mixture of culture, trade, and people’s activity will demonstrate how vibrant Tbilisi can be.

It is the perfect place to have an abroad-inspired coffee at one of the cafes and leisurely experience the city atmosphere. The square’s location also puts you within walking distance of the Puppet Clock Tower at the nearby Gabriadze Theatre, a well-known icon that further enriches the city. The square is a living testimony of the multidisciplinary culture of Tbilisi – the location where history and modernity ball on the same field.

Do not forget to stop at the river-spanning Peace Bridge, which offers a spectacular view of the city skyline. The bridge’s design is one of its modern elements, contrasting with the architecture around it, and it will be a nice addition to your photo-journal. An absolute tourist spot in the city of Tbilisi, Europe Square offers a richly atmospheric experience and historical monuments you cannot afford to miss, whether it is your first or not.

18. The Freedom Square – Historic Square and Meeting Place

As my favourite place to wake up to the city’s atmosphere, I would prefer Freedom Square or Azgari Plaza. As a travel expert, I have observed that Tbilisi is a destination of choice for most visitors and a central location on any list of places to see. The obelisk has seven columns that serve to remind people of the city’s strength and to act as a reference point for locals and visitors. The city’s history is interwoven with the present through monuments such as the statue of the national poet Niko Paliashvili.

If you are wondering what to do in Tbilisi, take a relaxed stroll along the riverbank, which borders Freedom Square, and it is a picturesque ride to the Narikala Fortress. The castle is situated on a hill, offering an inspiring view of the city skyline, most effective at sunset or dawn. For people who want a more laid-back time, the public plazas and outdoor cafes of the square are the perfect spots to people-watch and have Georgian coffee.

Among the most outstanding features of Freedom Square is its role as a cultural centre. There are frequent improvised performances in the streets by local performers and artists. First-time visitors or regular travellers will find something of interest in these performances, as they offer insight into the artistic soul of Tbilisi. The square is also home to seasonal festivals and public gatherings, making it a living monument to a city full of communities.

To make a convenient recommendation, the square is a short walk from both Rike Park and Europe Square; hence, it is a convenient place to start and finish your sightseeing itinerary. It is also well served by tram lines that pass through the old town and are easily accessible to other attractions. Also, be sure to visit the local shopping streets, which have a variety of traditional Georgian fabrics and modern-day fashion stores. Freedom Square is the site that lets you feel the pulse of Tbilisi, a city that combines the past and modern culture in its own way.

19. Abanatubani Baths (Chreli Abano)

The smell of ground minerals and the soft hissing of water have brought me to the most typical experience of Tbilisi, the Abanotubani Baths. The baths are a UNESCO-protected monument to ancient Georgian thermal culture in the Old Town. As someone who has organised immersive tours, visiting such baths is not just something to do in your free time, but a cultural experience that leaves you feeling refreshed and connected to the city’s soul.

As soon as you enter, the hot steam encloses you, and the water rotating the basin becomes a relaxing melody. The baths are more than 3,000 years old and employ the same heating system perfected over the centuries: an underground system of hot springs and a massive stone pool that doubles as a community spa. These waters are very mineralised, and many people testify to their healing and cleansing effects, particularly for skin-related issues and rejuvenation.

If you want to include a tour of the baths, combine it with a walk along the Peace Bridge, where you can see the city’s rooftops and the Mtkvari River. This location and the bridge’s design make it an ideal spot to take Instagram-worthy pictures, then head to the baths for a soaking experience.

Real-life suggestions: the baths are open daily, though the best time to visit is in the morning or late in the evening, when crowds are smaller. If you are a first-time visitor, get a small souvenir spa package to take with you, or visit the steam rooms and have a traditional khachapuri at one of the local cafes. A golden hour visit after sunset by repeat travellers offers a magical, glowing atmosphere ideal for night photography.

It is not only a therapeutic experience but also a great opportunity to learn more about Tbilisi’s nightlife and its local traditions. The baths are an important aspect of Tbilisi’s identity, so they must be included in any list of things to do in Tbilisi.

20. Puppet Clock Tower in Gabriadze theatre

A visit to Tbilisi cannot be complete without paying a visit to the Puppet Clock Tower in the Gabriadze Theatre. As a travel expert, I have witnessed how this fanciful building has captured the hearts of many people, and it is not surprising. The city’s playful nature is evident in the tower’s weird design, the live puppet performances held there, and its rich cultural background.

Theatre-goers will enjoy the way the tower contributes to the atmosphere of the Gabriadze Theatre, which offers a diverse range of performances, including classical opera and experimental dance. The tower is also a common feature on the list of what to see in Tbilisi, especially among people who want to indulge in local art. The clock hands of the tower swing in a hypnotic rhythm during the day, and in the evenings, they light up the tower with animated puppets and share stories of Georgian folklore and history.

One excellent idea when adding this landmark to your itinerary is to visit it and also go to Freedom Square. The two attractions are within walking distance, so it is easy to make a loop that showcases the city’s cultural delights. To have a more in-depth experience, reserve a **guided tour, which would allow one to go behind the scenes and interview the puppeteers. This will provide you with creative insight into their craft and the theatre’s history.

On your trip, remember that the puppet shows are performed most evenings, so check the schedule beforehand. If you are a regular visitor, you may want to see another act every night, as the show is different day in, day out. For first-time visitors, a brief visit to the tower before the show would be an excellent opportunity to enjoy the unique design of Tbilisi’s cultural scene.

The Puppet Clock Tower is a reflection of Tbilisi’s artistic spirit and a destination that cannot be ignored by anyone interested in exploring the city’s beauty beyond the old streets. It serves as a reminder that Tbilisi is not merely monuments and markets, but also a wizard that drives the city’s culture.

21. Mtatsminda Park – Amusement Park & Viewpoints on the Hill

Mtatsminda Park is not simply an amusement park, but it is the kind of heart-stopping sight that makes the city of Tbilisi soul-dropping. Located on a hill overlooking the city, I learned that this park offers an impressive combination of thrill-seeking activities, tranquil gardens, and scenic views that would put it at the top of the list of things to do in Tbilisi. The funicular ride itself is an experience because you can watch the city tops blur as you ride up. After getting to the top, take a slow walk around the paved paths, where traditional cottonwood benches are set up for people to gather, laugh, and share a cold Georgian beer.

Do not miss the Ferris wheel, the city’s iconic feature; you will see the city’s lights stretching out in every direction. This is an ideal location to capture some photographs or have your own moment of reflection. Roller Coaster Fire is a heart-racing loop in the park that older travellers enjoy with younger ones and remains a favourite amongst younger travellers. If you have more time, there is a nearby theatre, the Theatre of the City, which performs outdoors and adds a cultural touch to your day. The neon lights are turned on in the park as the evening begins, creating the appearance of a celebratory party that Tbilisi nightlife is all about. Due to its family-friendly (or romantic) offerings, Mtatsminda Park is a place that everyone must visit when making a list of what to do in Tbilisi.

22. Rooftop Bars – Scenic Spots for City Views and Sunset

Sipping cocktails under the Georgian sky is the next thing to do in Tbilisi, and I cannot recommend it enough. A modern treasure trove for lovers of a blend of elegant atmosphere and stunning views, Tbilisi’s rooftop bars are worth visiting. I have also personally experienced the famous Purple 44 at the Old Town, with a panoramic view of the fortress and the Natakhtari Bridge as the dramatic backdrops as the sun sets behind the western horizon. It is an easy-going place but full of life, thus making it the best place to relax after a day of sightseeing or to meet with friends.

To have a little more luxurious experience, I would recommend visiting The Roof Club at the Residence Hotel, where the interior design is smooth, the windows are made of glass, and the cocktail menu is based on the local products, including fresh pomegranate juice, honey and, of course, the staple Georgian spirit, which is Chacha. Whether you’re a bar-hopper or an amateur drinker, these rooftop bars combine Tbilisi’s nightlife with the rich culture of this country. In need of a glittering skyline in Tbilisi by night, a sunset cocktail in one of its rooftop bars is all the quintessential what to see in Tbilisi trip you will ever need to keep returning to.

23. Drink Chacha (Georgian spirit) – Experience the Local Drink Culture.

None of the sightseeing in Tbilisi is complete without getting absorbed into the most popular of the spirits in the country: Chacha. This grape vodka, called Georgian wine, is raw and has been served in Tbilisi bars for ages. I am a travel expert, and I have already brought numerous customers to the old taverns of Old Town, such as Arsenali and Shukhrat Baidze, where locals are delighted to serve this potent, earthy drink. The ritual is not about the ritual itself but rather about the flavour. Traditionally, Chacha is served from a small clay jug, with a few drops on the end of a wooden spoon as a sign of hospitality.

A shot of Chacha, paired with a glass of the renowned homemade wine of Tbilisi, is always a treat I recommend, as it opens your palate. In addition to its flavour, Chacha has a strong connection in Georgian culture; it represents friendship, generosity, and the happy feeling that surrounds the city. The curious may also want to know what is involved in doing things in Tbilisi, and a tour of Chacha tasting is an enjoyable, immersive way to meet locals and understand the traditions that have defined Georgia through the ages. Being a connoisseur or a first-time taster, the pleasing, marginally sweet and certainly bold flavour of Chacha will make an impression that lasts long enough.

Traditional Georgian Chacha served in a glass, a taste of local culture and one of the unique things to do in Tbilisi.

24. Day Trip to Mtskheta – Ancient capital, UNESCO World Heritage site

A must-do in Tbilisi is going back in time to visit Mtskheta, the old capital of Georgia and a UNESCO World Heritage site. I have steered a good number of travellers through the roomy air-conditioned coaches that will bring you only twenty-five minutes out of Tbilisi to its very centre. Mtskheta is also an interesting historical and spiritual complex, and its grand churches (Shio-Mgvime and Svetitskhoveli) are located on the banks of the Aragvi River. The lovers of what to see in Tbilisi will be amazed by the elaborate frescoes, stone-built architecture and spectacular sight of the sunrise over the old ruins.

And for those who take their leisure in a quiet, meditative retreat, the monastery of Jvari sits on a hill and offers a comprehensive view, a sight worth seeing. After sightseeing historic sites, you will taste traditional Georgian cuisine at the village’s quaint restaurants, a pleasant surprise. My favourite meal to recommend is khachapuri, a local bread with cheese as one of its main fillings, representative of the area. As a traveller, I prefer to combine the trip with a day trip to Mtskheta, where I would be guided through the historical sites, have a traditional lunch, and enjoy a short tasting of the famous Chacha, so I would not miss any historic element still alive in this ancient city.

25. Day Trip to Kazbegi / Gergeti Trinity Church – Iconic Mountain Scenery

Yet another thing one will always remember doing in Tbilisi is a day tour of the beautiful mountain town of Kazbegi, where the Gergeti Trinity Church is majestically perched, overlooking the towering mountain Kazbek. I have arranged tours that start early in the morning, passing through the picturesque alpine passes and offering views of the snow-covered mountain tops. The trip itself is a treat; they go over deep valleys, across rich forests, and past picturesque little stone villages, and all the time they are breathing in the untouched natural landscape that is the pride of Georgia. After arriving in Gergeti, I suggest you take your time and ascend the hill (the road is marked and suitable for most fitness levels).

The white stone exterior of the church, set against the blue sky, is an Instagrammable experience no traveller will regret. To the adventurous, there are guided ascents, leading to the neighbouring alpine meadows, where a glimpse will be afforded of the terrific legendary trout, the kura. Having seen the spectacular landscape, I would always recommend a relaxing evening in a local guesthouse, where you can enjoy delicious khinkali dumplings and hear traditional polyphonic songs of Georgia. Not only does this day trip to Kazbegi keep the what to see in Tbilisi checklist going, but it also begs you to get a taste of the uncivilised, unfiltered mouth of the Georgian highlands.
